The Circle is Now (Almost) Complete

Mood: Cautiously Optimistic

Ten months ago, I decided to do something that could be considered a little crazy. See, back when I created the original Game List, several years ago, I made goals based on saved games I had. This meant that any game that didn't have a save, or where I lost the save, was never marked complete. Ten months ago is when I compiled a list of those games in an effort to replay them all and get some goals down. For the most part, these are PC games (hence the lost save files - I'm terrible keeping track of those), with a few SNES games and such with no save system. There are 24 games in all, plus their expansions, and as of this writing I have finished 23 of them.

[Spoiler: The List]

One of the "rules" I made for doing this was that I wouldn't start any new games during this time. I broke that rule a few times, playing Mass Effect 1 & 2 as well as Final Fantasy XIII, and I broke my already-standing rule of not replaying games I already beat to make guides for Final Fantasy I-IV, as well as Ultima I. I also played plenty of sports games and more than a little bit of Rock Band 2, so it's not like I was only playing these games. But I have resisted trying almost anything really and truly new for nearly a year now.

At this point, there's only one game left on the original list: Baldur's Gate II (and its expansion). It happens to be one of my favorite games of all time, but I didn't intentionally "save the best for last" or anything like that. The list was just RPG-heavy, and I had been on a big Ultima kick immediately before starting it, so I tried to spread them out. And I spent way too much time on BG1 so I wanted to avoid that engine for a while (which is why IWD2 is at the bottom of the completed list).

Of course, BG2 is a long game, and I'm already a bit burnt out on the Infinity Engine, so we'll see. But the end is in sight! Soon I won't have a good excuse for ignoring all the games people tell me to play. Of course, there's still the fall sports games, and Rock Band 3 is coming out, and FFXIV, and the next FFXI patch, and... yeah, so I probably won't be playing anything new in the immediate future. Maybe.
